1/3/2023 0 Comments Rename disk in ztreewinGet assistance if there's an issue, that's what we have an A-List forum for, we're a Topic away. I won't complain though, it runs 8.1 like a champ with an Ivy Bridge quad core CPU (i7-3630QM) & 1GB GDDR5 Geforce GT640M, for a few hours of work setting up it's replacement & a network, not a bad deal for what cost over $1,200 with taxes.Īnyway, the renaming of system files & folders isn't a safe practice, unless the machine has been imaged first, and some files should not be tampered with period. Much of what Samsung lays hands on turns into gold, but not their notebooks, firmware issues dogged the corporation out of the business of Windows notebooks. A couple of others brought theirs by that didn't upgrade well, a Reset fixed one, the other was a Samsung similar to mine, that OEM doesn't recommend Windows 10 on most Samsung Series 7 notebooks (including mine & hers), with the exception of 6 models. The MB failed a few months later.Īnyway, have already performed several Windows 10 upgrades for others, a couple which didn't turn out well, so used the backup that I took to reinstall 7/8.1 back. Though it's a much dogged OS, has ran good on all except one of my computers, which was the first one it was installed on, however there were issues present that may have contributed to this. 8.1 is not quite as bad, as long as 8 doesn't have to be installed first, usually if in the UEFI firmware, 8.1, Update 1 is a keyless install & not so many updates as 7. Reinstalling Windows 7 w/out SP1 is a lot of work, and even if pre-installed is. I told him next time to take it to Best Buy or a local shop & see how much they charge for the same work, then come back and will agree that $100 is a great deal. Not to be taken advantage of, that's for sure. Then he balks at a price of $50 for all of that work, though he did pay, and haven't seen him since, said something to the effect 'what are friends for?'. Spent a day & a half restoring it like new & updating everything, fortunately little extra software had to be reinstalled, just Google Chrome & CCleaner. Asked him if he had a backup, since he formatted the Recovery partition to get over the 4 Primary issue, luckily he had the Recovery Disk set that I had created for him when it was new. He had enabled view of all hidden files, and in the System32 section, some folders were renamed to his own. saying that he tried to fix some things & that it wasn't running well. Last year, a friend brought a computer by for me to 'check out'. Renaming system folders and files can still cause issues and corruptions.
